Stricherz-bait! (Even better that the picture is from his spiritual hometown-- i was stuck in the traffic to get on the Bay Bridge)

If u cant make it out, the stickers say: "Kennedy in '68" and "Obama '08."

So..... would Mark agree that Kennedy in '68 is the same coalition as Obama in '08? Does C.S.T. interpet Jesus' wisdom on community and the poor in the same way as Trinity U.C.C.?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Certain Kentucky natives?

i dont believe that Obama has visited any Appalachian towns. im not even sure he's campaigned anywhere in the Bluegrass State.

BTW, RFK stole the idea of using poor Appalachians as campaign props from LBJ in '65 who picked it up from brother JFK who owed W.VA back in the '60 primaries for saving his bacon.

wait..... is that what u even meant?

Mark is a Bay Area native with ties to The City, Burlingame, and Walnut Creek.

So, to try to clear it up: the antecedent of "his" in the title is to Mark. SF is his spiritual homeland.

Not to stir up trouble with locals, but there was probably a snort from some that Senator Obama gave his cracker-quidick speech across the Golden Gate in Marin.

SF before the war was home to many who would have been natural members of RFK's coalition. Now its instead home to the colonists from Marin County who conquered it and make up Senator Obama's coalition.

But, I'll let Mark explain all that... i probably dont have it right exactly, and Mark's written the book on the matter-- literally! That's why you should all go out and buy his great history: "Why The Democrats Are Blue."

Mark is one of the Democrat voices in the wilderness.

Bobby's coalition differed from Obama's in three ways:

1) White Catholics, Hispanics, and
Northern blue-collar workers
were key coalition members

2) Catholic political leaders had
a say in the coalition

3) Intellectuals and
New Politics activists
(college-educated baby boomers
and feminists) had much less
of a say

well, that was pithy. :)

Jessie,

I was referring to Dan. He's the only Kentucky native I know!

Dan,

As for your question about how CST and the UCCC differ about helping the poor, I would bet money that CST wants to do so primarily through mediating institutions, while the UCCC seeks primarily to go through the state. But I don't know enough about UCCC thinking to say for sure.

I figured as much but Dan seemed unwilling to admit it. ;-)
